Jed Horwitt is a partner at Zeisler & Zeisler, P.C. with over 35 years of experience in the area of bankruptcy and debtor/creditor rights.  His practice focuses primarily on the representation of businesses in need of financial workouts or contemplating Chapter 11 reorganization, creditors’ committees in complex Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases and high net worth individuals who are seeking protection from their creditors.

Jed has represented main players in many complex and successful bankruptcy proceedings including Handy and Harman Refining Group, Inc., Adler Coleman Clearing Corporation, Derecktor Shipyards and the Cannondale Bicycle Company.  He is currently the lead attorney representing the Chapter 7 Trustee in In re Michael S. Goldberg, a significant Ponzi Scheme bankruptcy case where he has overseen the prosecution of over 200 adversary proceedings.  Jed was the liquidating trustee for In re Handy and Harman Refining Group, Inc. and In re Attleboro Refining Company, Inc., together one of the world’s largest precious metals refineries, where allowed unsecured claims were paid 100 percent.

Jed has also represented numerous creditors in litigation against the Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC) in the context of broker/dealer liquidations under the Securities Investor Protection Act.  He is currently serving as the Court-appointed Receiver in Securities and Exchange Commission v. Mark J. Varacchi and Sentinel Growth Fund Management, LLC, a complex securities fraud-related ponzi scheme; and he was the former Receiver in Securities and Exchange Commission v. Iftikar Ahmed, et al.

In 2016, Jed accepted an invitation to become a James T. Cooper Lifetime Fellow.  The Fellows is a collection of the State’s most outstanding lawyers, judges and teachers who devote their time and talent to sponsoring programs that address matters concerning the legal profession, justice, and the rule of law in society.

Prior to coming to Connecticut, Jed practiced for two years in New York City at what is now known as KMZ-Rosenman, LLC. Following that, Jed practiced for two years at the New Haven based law firm of Wiggin & Dana until joining Zeisler & Zeisler in 1991.
